Ron Hocevar was sworn in as the Scott County Attorney on January 7, 2015. Prior to this, Ron served in the Scott County Attorney’s Office for over 15 years. Ron was the Chief Deputy to the Scott County Attorney for 11 years, and served as Head of the Criminal Division prior to that. During this time, Ron prosecuted the first “Craigslist Killer” in the United States, and implemented the successful management practices followed in the office to this day.
Ron is a military veteran. He began active-duty military service with the Naval Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG). Ron first served as a JAG defense attorney, where he was selected to the trial team for his exceptional litigation skills and even represented some of the Navy pilots accused as a result of the Tailhook scandal. Ron later served as a JAG prosecutor, and represented the Navy in court-martial cases that included aggravated assaults, sexual assaults, and drug related offenses. After leaving active-duty, Ron continued to serve as a JAG Officer in the Naval Reserves until 2014.
Ron was born and raised on the Iron Range in Gilbert and Eveleth in Northern Minnesota. Ron graduated from Eveleth High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota, and earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law. Ron now lives with his family in Prior Lake. When he’s not busy driving his children to various sport activities, Ron enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing hockey.
